The Standard You Hold Yourself To
One thing I’ve been thinking about recently is standards.
Not the ones people talk about…
But the ones you quietly hold yourself to.
When I was younger, my parents used to tell me I was really hard on myself.
That I held myself to such a high standard.
And that was one thing when I was a kid.
But over time, that became one of my biggest assets.
Because the standard you hold yourself to shapes everything.
How you show up. How you work. How you follow through.
For me, I’ve always believed in giving 110%.
Not sometimes. Not when it’s convenient.
Consistently.
And that standard shows up in every area of my life.
Not just in business.
I’ve learned over time, your standards show up in the people around you.
For me, I naturally gravitate toward people who hold themselves to a high standard.
People who work hard. Who are disciplined. Who care about doing things well — not just getting them done.
There’s a different kind of energy when you’re around people like that.
You don’t have to explain the effort. You don’t have to push for accountability. It’s just understood.
And I’ve found that those are the environments where I do my best work.
Where I feel challenged in the right ways. Where there’s mutual respect. Where growth happens naturally.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about intention.
So something I’ve been thinking about lately — and something I’d invite you to think about too:
What standard are you holding yourself to right now?
And do the people around you reflect that?
No pressure to have a perfect answer.
But if it’s something you’ve been thinking about, I’d love to hear your perspective.
