A Thought on Work-Life Balance
I get asked about “work–life balance” a lot.
It usually sounds like this:
“How do you balance being a CEO and being a mom?”
“How do you turn work off?” “Don’t you ever get tired?”
And the honest answer?
I don’t really believe in balance the way people define it.
Here’s what I do believe.
I love what I do.
Work doesn’t feel like work to me. It feels like a hobby. Create. Solve. Lead. Exercise. Watch ideas move from vision to reality. Watch people grow into roles they didn’t even know they were capable of.
For me, business is a hobby I just happen to get paid for. It means I’ve built a life where the things I love overlap.
My kids see me passionate. They see me focused. They see me committed.
They see me show up even when I’m tired. They see me committed. And I’m okay with these examples.
There are seasons when I’m deeply in it — scaling, building, pushing. There are seasons when I’m slower, more present, more reflective.
But I don’t measure my life in perfect 50/50 splits.
I measure it in alignment. Is the work meaningful? Are my priorities clear? Am I proud of the example I’m setting?
Work–life balance isn’t about equal hours.
It’s about intentional energy.
I built this.
I chose this.
And I genuinely enjoy it.
So instead of chasing balance, I chase clarity.
Clarity about what matters. Clarity about when to push. Clarity about when to pause. Clarity about what season I’m in.
If you’re feeling pulled in multiple directions right now, maybe the better question isn’t: “How do I balance it all?”
Maybe it’s:
“What am I building — and does it align with who I want to be?”
Because when PLAN and VALUES align, it feels like PURPOSE.
