Pick Up the Phone
This week I’ve been thinking about something simple that I believe people are slowly losing:
The art of picking up the phone and calling someone.
We live in a world of texts, emails, Google chats, and DMs.
Everything is quick.
Efficient.
Convenient.
And while those things absolutely have their place, I think we sometimes forget that communication is also about connection.
Recently, I needed a verification code from a client so I could get back into one of their accounts.
I could have easily sent a quick text.
“Hey, can you send me the code?”
Fast. Efficient. Done.
But instead, I picked up the phone and called.
And within a few minutes, I not only got the code…
I learned something new about my client.
We laughed.
We connected.
We had a real conversation.
And it reminded me how much gets lost when every interaction becomes transactional.
A phone call isn’t just a faster way to communicate.
It’s a relationship-building tool.
You hear tone.
Energy.
Emotion.
You create trust.
And in business, relationships still matter more than most people realize.
Technology makes communication easier.
But it doesn’t always make it better.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down enough to actually connect with someone.
Not because you have to.
But because relationships are built in those little moments.
So this week, maybe instead of sending the text…
Pick up the phone.
